About Me

About Bonnie Smith

Growing up, I carried with me an underlying feeling that there had to be more to my life than what was. But what was it? I had no idea but felt that while I walked to the beat of my own drum I would eventually find it. Knowing that once I did, I would find my inner peace. I faced many challenges over the years but I stayed constant searching for that elusive piece of me that would calm my inner turmoil.

It is surprising where the path of life takes you and the doors we must open and close to get to a point where we are ready for our next stage of spiritual growth. I had bought herbs from a lady for years. Andrea was a lady who faced adversity but never let go of her purpose in life. One beautiful Sunday morning, she asked if I would be interested in hearing about a new path that she was on and would I be interested in trying it. She talked to me about Reiki and all of its wonderful healing powers. It sounded interesting and I was willing to giving it a try.

I returned to Andrea’s home for my first Reiki Session the following week. She brought me into the old barn, the same place where she sold her herbs. I believe her table was an old door with blankets on it, nothing fancy here. My healing on a mental, physical, emotional and spiritual journey began. This is what I had been searching for. I found that inner peace that I had been looking for all my life.

In 1998, I was ready to take on the responsibility of a Reiki practitioner. Andrea introduced me to Ellen who became my initiating Reiki Master for Level 1 and Level 2. Ellen always told her students: “ To Trust Reiki “ and to “Let Reiki Teach You”.

I was on the right path now and my inner peace turned into excitement. I was truly on the path of my Soul’s Journey.

My interest continued to grow and over the years I have become a Reiki Master in the Usui, Karuna®, Gendai Ho, Seichim, and Sacred Flame methods of healing energies. In the year 2002, I became a board director for the Canadian Reiki Association and in 2004 was appointed President of our Association. We are an association that provides our members with a national voice; encourages high educational standards; promotes ethical practices and teaching; and also assists the public with referrals to Registered Practitioners and Teachers. I expanded my interests and obtained a Level 2 certificate in Therapeutic Touch. Then with the Ontario College of Reflexology, in 2002, I was certified as a Foot Reflexologist Practitioner and in 2005 as a Hand Reflexologist.  In 2004, I earned my certification as a Teacher with the College retiring in 2022.

The Story Behind The Logo

Reiki was a new beginning for me. I was changing and I finally found that comfort zone that I had been searching for. I was making new friends in this area, whom like myself were discovering that there was so much more to learn. It was an exciting new path to be travelling on at this time in our lives. A friend commented once that “Some of us may be Reiki Master’s but we will always be students“. I could not have agreed more with that thought.

It came to pass that my strongest desire was to create a business with my new talents and to be able to share my energy and knowledge with others.

Like giving birth, I had to give it a name. The task was not as easy as I thought it might be. I started to reflect back on what brought me to this point in my life. My lowest point was facing the challenges of breast cancer in 1990. Then came the highest points of my life in the years 2002, 2004, and 2007, when my daughter gave birth to my grandchildren. The path has had many curves and been unpredictable but what a journey it has been. You learn to listen, to trust and to have faith in your soul for it will always guide you. There it was – Soul’s Journey.

I had to have a face for Soul’s Journey. It would be a logo that was created with the thoughts of my past. Having met Marlies who does wonderful stained glass works of art, we set out to take the logo a step further and create a panel of stained glass for the business.

From my readings, Dr. Usui’s brothers erected a Torri (or gateway) at his gravesite. I chose this Torri, symbolically as a starting place to begin my business, and then I chose the root charkra colour of red with hopes to always stay grounded. As the sun comes up each day to represent new beginnings, I thought this would represent the new future of S.J. and the direction where I was heading. The golden yellow glass for the sun represented the solar plexus chakra as well as a healing colour. The chakra also covers a wide spectrum of meanings, but for myself it represents identity and selfhood.

Next we chose some beautiful beveled pieces of clear glass to circle this image. I felt it represented a ring of infinity, so that my journey would have a long life.

Outside of this, Marlies was able to cut the glass in such a way that it represented the petals of a lotus flower. As these petals protect the chakras so to they would protect Soul’s Journey.

Finally, there is the indigo that frames the piece. This is the colour for the brow chakra representing the spirit and intuition of the soul. May the spirit of Soul’s Journey always be there and never lose insight.
